San Diego Zoo

November 27, 2014 by Sheryl No Comments
San Diego Zoo

It has become a tradition for us to head to San Diego every Thanksgiving. This year, Ricky played golf on Thanksgiving, so I took advantage of the opportunity to check out the San Diego Zoo. It’s supposed to be one of the best zoos in the country, and it didn’t disappoint. I went with our friend Tom, and we had a blast!

At the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, species mingle a bit like they do in their native Asia and Africa. That doesn’t mean you’re going to find lions roaming the same enclosures as the zebras, but you will see multiple species of hoofed animals roaming the same large area.

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park didn’t start out as a tourist attraction. It actually began as a conservation facility. Dozens of endangered species have been bred at the park and re-introduced into the wild. Fees from your visits help them continue that work.

Admission is charged, and there’s a separate parking fee. The process for getting tickets and the tips that apply are the same for getting San Diego Zoo tickets, which is great because you will be able to do all the activities. There are many ponds in the zoo as well, they have added two small ones in the past year. Contact the Swell UK team for more information about the equipment need to build a pond.

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park raises money from extra-cost activities. Those may include Photo Safaris, Cheetah Run Safari, Balloon Safari (a 15-minute ride that goes 400 feet in the air), and behind-the-scenes Safari Park tours. Go to the Safari Tours and Experiences links at the park’s website to find a list of current offerings.

Vancouver

Vancouver

In 2014, Ricky and I took a beer journey north up the West Coast of the United States. We started in San Diego, and ended up in Vancouver. I loved the waterfront in Vancouver, and snapped some shots of it while we were there. I have to say, Vancouver was definitely a harder border to get in and out of Canada than Niagara Falls!

Maui

December 22, 2013 by Sheryl No Comments
Maui

For our 5th anniversary, Ricky and I decided to head back to Hawaii (we went there for the first time in 2010), only this time we’d visit a different island. So far now we’ve been to 4 Hawaiian islands (Oahu, Big Island, Maui, and Lanai) and hope to make it to as many as possible. Maui was beautiful with rainbows every day, but I think we liked the bigger city feel of the cities on Oahu better. But no complaining… Hawaii is Hawaii!
